Islands of Adventure Florida Map Guide

Islands of Adventure at Universal Orlando Resort is a single-loop park divided into 9 themed lands, including The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, Marvel Super Hero Island, and Jurassic World. The park entrance feeds into Port of Entry, and the loop runs clockwise or counterclockwise depending on your priorities.

Islands of Adventure Florida Map: Complete Layout & Navigation Guide

Islands of Adventure is one of the most densely packed theme parks in Florida. Every land is distinct, every transition is deliberate, and if you don’t know the layout before you arrive, you’ll spend valuable morning rope-drop time figuring out where you’re going instead of riding.

This guide breaks down the full park map — land by land, ride by ride — so you can walk in with a plan.

Note: Islands of Adventure is part of Universal Orlando Resort, not Walt Disney World. ParkSwiz covers both ecosystems. This guide focuses entirely on IOA’s layout and navigation.

The Basic Shape of Islands of Adventure#

The park is built as a single loop around a central lagoon called the Great Inland Sea. There are no shortcuts across the water. If you’re on one side and need to get to the other, you walk the arc — roughly 1.2 miles for the full circuit.

The main entrance, Port of Entry, sits at the top of the loop. From there, you can break left (counterclockwise, toward Marvel Super Hero Island) or right (clockwise, toward The Lost Continent and then Hogsmeade). Both paths eventually meet at the bottom of the loop near Jurassic World.

The 9 lands in order (clockwise from entrance):

  1. Port of Entry
  2. The Lost Continent
  3. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade
  4. Jurassic World
  5. Skull Island
  6. Toon Lagoon
  7. Marvel Super Hero Island
  8. (Back to Port of Entry)

One land — Seuss Landing — sits between The Lost Continent and Toon Lagoon at the bottom of the loop, making the actual count 9 lands total.

Land-by-Land Breakdown#

Port of Entry

This is your arrival and departure hub. It’s not a themed land so much as a beautifully designed transition zone mixing architectural styles from global bazaars. You’ll find lockers, stroller rentals, guest services, and the main merchandise shops here.

Strategy: Don’t linger here in the morning. The crowds funnel through Port of Entry at open, so move through it quickly and get to your priority ride.

Marvel Super Hero Island

First land to the left when you enter. Home to some of the park’s highest-capacity thrill rides.

Key rides:

  • The Incredible Hulk Coaster — Launched steel coaster, 0-40 mph in 2 seconds. High capacity, lines move reasonably fast.
  • Velocicoaster — Wait. That’s at Universal Studios Florida. Don’t confuse parks on your map.
  • Spider-Man: The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man — Classic dark ride with 3D screens and practical sets. Still holds up.
  • Doctor Doom’s Fearfall — Drop tower. Short ride, long lines. Low priority unless it’s walk-on.

Dining: Café 4 is a solid counter-service option for pizza and pasta. Captain America Diner offers burgers and sits near the Hulk coaster.

Map note: Marvel is the first land on the left as you enter, which means it catches significant rope-drop foot traffic. If Hulk or Spider-Man is your priority, come here first — but be aware a lot of other guests have the same idea.

Toon Lagoon

Comic strip-themed land with two water rides. Expect to get wet — genuinely, significantly wet.

Key rides:

  • Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls — Flume ride with a significant drop. One of the better flume rides in Florida.
  • Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges — Circular raft ride. You will not stay dry.

Strategy: Hit these early or late in the day if temperatures are high. Avoid them first thing in the morning if it’s cool — wet clothes and cold air is a miserable combination. Ponchos are sold throughout the park.

Skull Island

A single-attraction land built around Skull Island: Reign of Kong. The queue itself is elaborate and worth experiencing — you walk through a massive temple structure.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong is an oversized vehicle dark ride with screen-based effects and some practical elements. It’s not a white-knuckle thrill ride, but the scale is impressive. Good for families who want something intense-feeling without a coaster.

Map note: Skull Island sits between Toon Lagoon and Jurassic World. It’s easy to walk past the entrance if you’re moving quickly through the bottom of the park.

Jurassic World

Rebranded from Jurassic Park in 2024, this land anchors the bottom-right section of the park loop.

Key rides:

  • Jurassic World VelociCoaster — Wait. That’s at Universal Studios Florida. The coaster at IOA is Jurassic World Ride (formerly Jurassic Park River Adventure) — a boat ride that ends in a significant drop. High-throughput, but lines build fast.
  • Pteranodon Flyers — Suspended coaster for small children. Height restrictions are tight. Don’t plan your day around it.
  • Jurassic World Discovery Center — Walk-through exhibit with dinosaur eggs, interactive elements. Great for kids and adults who want a break.

Dining: Thunder Falls Terrace is one of the better quick-service options in the park. Rotisserie chicken, ribs, and a view of the River Adventure drop. Genuinely good food by theme park standards.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade

This is the centerpiece of Islands of Adventure for most guests. The land is extraordinarily detailed — the rooftops, the shop interiors, the ambient snow effects — and it almost always has the longest wait times in the park.

Key rides:

  • Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure — Consistently ranked among the best theme park rides in the world. Launched coaster with elaborate theming, creature encounters, and a secret second launch. The line can reach 120+ minutes on busy days. This is your first priority at rope drop, full stop.
  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey — Dark ride inside Hogwarts castle. The queue alone is worth the wait — you walk through Dumbledore’s office, the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, and more. Single rider line available and moves fast.
  • Flight of the Hippogriff — Family launched coaster. Short but fun. Good for younger riders.

Dining:

  • Three Broomsticks — The best themed quick-service restaurant in the land. Rotisserie chicken, Great Feast platters, and Butterbeer. Arrives early or between peak meal times to avoid massive queues.
  • Hog’s Head Pub — Attached to Three Broomsticks. Order Butterbeer here if the main restaurant line is long.

Map tip: Hogsmeade is in the upper-right quadrant of the park loop. If you enter the park and go clockwise (right), you’ll hit The Lost Continent briefly before arriving here. Going right at park open is the fastest route to Hagrid’s.

The Lost Continent

A mythological-themed land that’s been scaled back over the years as Hogsmeade expansion absorbed some of its territory. The main remaining attractions are the Poseidon’s Fury walk-through show (worth seeing once) and the Mythos Restaurant.

Mythos Restaurant is consistently rated one of the best theme park restaurants in the world. It’s a table-service restaurant inside a cave-like rock structure. If you’re doing a sit-down meal at IOA, book this in advance. The menu changes periodically but typically includes Mediterranean-influenced dishes.

Seuss Landing

Located at the bottom of the loop between The Lost Continent and Toon Lagoon. Completely Dr. Seuss themed — no straight lines anywhere, everything curves.

Key rides:

  • The Cat in the Hat — Classic dark ride. Gentle, slow-moving, good for all ages.
  • The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride — Elevated ride with views over the land. Low capacity, lines build fast. Hit it early.
  • One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish — Spinning ride for young kids. Wet. Fun.

Dining: Green Eggs and Ham Café is a counter-service spot with novelty menu items. The green-colored food is genuinely fun for kids.

The Best Entry Strategy Based on the Map#

If Hagrid’s Is Your #1 Priority (It Should Be)

Turn right immediately after entering Port of Entry. Move through The Lost Continent without stopping. Arrive at Hagrid’s as early as possible. The ride regularly opens to significant wait times within 15 minutes of park open.

If You Want to Split Up or Avoid Crowds

Send faster members of your group to Hagrid’s while others ride Flight of the Hippogriff or Forbidden Journey (single rider line is excellent). Regroup at Three Broomsticks for a late breakfast.

For Families with Young Children

Start at Seuss Landing or Jurassic World Discovery Center to gauge your kids’ comfort level before hitting bigger rides. The map’s clockwise loop from Port of Entry passes the most intense areas first if you go left, so going right keeps you in milder territory longer.

What the Map Doesn’t Show You#

  • The connecting walkway to Universal Studios Florida — The two parks are connected via a walking path through Universal CityWalk, not by an internal park connector. You do not walk directly between parks through a gate.
  • Express Pass lanes — Nearly every major ride has a separate Express Pass entrance. These are marked on the physical park map but easy to miss. If you have Universal Express, look for the separate queue entrance, usually around the corner from the standby line.
  • Single rider entrances — Available at Hagrid’s, Forbidden Journey, and Jurassic World Ride. Not marked prominently. Ask a team member at the queue entrance.
  • Character meet-and-greet locations — These rotate and aren’t always reflected on static park maps. Check the Universal app for live character location updates.

Downloading and Using the Digital Map#

The Universal Orlando app has an interactive park map with live wait times, show schedules, and Lightning Lane equivalent (Express Pass) availability. It’s more useful than the paper map for navigation on the day.

For pre-trip planning, Universal’s website provides a static PDF map. It’s worth downloading and studying before your visit so you arrive already knowing the layout.

Quick Reference: Land Positions on the IOA Loop#

Land Position Best Known For
Port of Entry Top (Entrance) Entry/Exit hub
The Lost Continent Upper right Mythos Restaurant
Hogsmeade Right Hagrid’s, Hogwarts
Jurassic World Lower right River Adventure
Skull Island Bottom King Kong ride
Toon Lagoon Lower left Water rides
Seuss Landing Bottom-left Family rides
Marvel Super Hero Island Left Hulk, Spider-Man

Final Navigation Tips#

  1. Download the Universal app before you arrive. Live wait times change your routing decisions in real time.
  2. The park is not large, but it feels larger when crowded. At peak times, Hogsmeade in particular becomes extremely congested. Move through early.
  3. Lockers are required for some rides. Hagrid’s and Hulk both require loose articles to be stored. Free short-term lockers are available at both entrances. Budget 5 minutes for this.
  4. The lagoon cannot be crossed. If you see your destination across the water, you’re walking the arc. There’s no shortcut.
  5. Stroller parking is outside each land entrance. You’ll find marked stroller areas at the transition points between lands.
