Which Resorts and Parks the Skyliner Connects#
The Disney Skyliner links four Disney resorts to two theme parks via three gondola lines that converge at a central hub. Caribbean Beach Resort serves as that hub—every route passes through it.
From Caribbean Beach, one line runs to EPCOT’s International Gateway entrance (the back entrance between the France and United Kingdom pavilions). Another line goes to Hollywood Studios’ main entrance. The third line connects Pop Century and Art of Animation resorts to the Caribbean Beach hub.
Disney’s Riviera Resort sits on the EPCOT line between Caribbean Beach and the park, so Riviera guests board there and continue to either EPCOT or transfer at Caribbean Beach for Hollywood Studios.
If you’re staying at Pop Century or Art of Animation and heading to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios, you’ll transfer gondolas at Caribbean Beach. The transfer is straightforward—you exit one cabin, walk across the platform, and board the next line. Don’t sit down at Caribbean Beach thinking you’ve arrived; the resort spreads around the station, but you’re just passing through.
How Long You’ll Actually Wait#
Outside of peak times, Skyliner waits run 0-5 minutes. The gondolas move continuously—the line never fully stops except for guest boarding assistance. You’ll walk through the queue and step into a moving cabin that slows but doesn’t stop for boarding.
Expect 15-30 minute waits during these windows: 30 minutes before park opening, the first hour after opening, and 30-90 minutes after park closing (especially after fireworks at EPCOT). If you’re rope-dropping EPCOT or Hollywood Studios from a Skyliner resort, arrive at your resort station 60-75 minutes before official park opening to account for the wait and travel time.
The actual ride time from Pop Century to EPCOT (with the Caribbean Beach transfer) takes about 20 minutes. Caribbean Beach to either park runs roughly 5 minutes. Riviera to EPCOT takes about 3 minutes.
When Weather Shuts It Down#
The Skyliner closes during lightning storms. Florida gets afternoon thunderstorms nearly daily in summer, and the system will shut down until the lightning passes—typically 30-60 minutes, though sometimes longer. Bus service does not automatically increase to compensate.
High winds also close the Skyliner, though this happens less frequently than lightning closures. You won’t receive advance notice; the system simply stops operating and Cast Members redirect you to bus stops.
If you have a dining reservation or you’re trying to reach the parks during a closure, head immediately to the bus stops at your resort. Don’t wait at the Skyliner station hoping it reopens soon. Buses run to all parks from all resorts, but they’re slower and less frequent than the gondolas.
Why the Skyliner Beats Buses and Boats#
The Skyliner runs continuously from 30-60 minutes before the earliest park opening until 60-90 minutes after the latest park closing. You never check a schedule—just walk to the station and board.
Buses require you to wait for the next departure (typically every 20 minutes, but sometimes longer), then make the drive with possible stops. A bus from Pop Century to EPCOT can take 25-35 minutes including wait time. The Skyliner makes the same trip in 20 minutes even with the transfer, and you’re moving the entire time rather than standing at a bus stop.
The gondolas are air-conditioned via passive ventilation—windows and vents keep air flowing. They’re not climate-controlled like buses, so summer afternoons get warm inside the cabins, but the breeze and the views make it more comfortable than standing in the Florida sun waiting for a bus.
Each gondola cabin holds up to 10 people, but parties travel together when possible. If you’re a couple or small group, you’ll likely get your own cabin outside of peak times. During busy periods, you’ll share with other parties.
The Best Strategy for Park Hopping#
If you’re park hopping between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, the Skyliner is your fastest option regardless of where you’re staying. The EPCOT station sits at the International Gateway, so you’ll enter World Showcase rather than the front of the park. If you need to reach the front (for attractions like Test Track or Guardians of the Cosmic Rewind), walk through World Showcase or take the internal bus that runs between the two EPCOT entrances.
For Hollywood Studios, the Skyliner drops you at the main entrance, steps from Hollywood Boulevard. You’ll skip the tram and parking lot entirely.
Non-Skyliner resort guests can still use the system by taking a bus to Caribbean Beach, Riviera, Pop Century, or Art of Animation, then boarding the gondola. This rarely saves time compared to a direct bus, but if you’re already near one of these resorts or you want the experience, it works.
