The My Disney Experience app manages your entire Walt Disney World visit: link tickets and hotels in “My Plans,” book dining 60 days ahead, purchase Lightning Lane through the Tip Board, check live wait times, and use GPS maps for navigation and mobile food ordering.
Download the My Disney Experience app before your trip and link your tickets and hotel reservation immediately — this unlocks everything from Lightning Lane booking windows to mobile food ordering, and you’ll avoid scrambling with spotty park Wi-Fi on arrival day.
Getting Started: Linking Your Tickets and Hotel#
Create your account in the My Disney Experience App as soon as you book your vacation. Tap “My Plans” at the bottom of the screen, then select “Link Tickets & Passes” or “Resort Hotel.” You’ll need your confirmation number from your ticket purchase email or hotel booking.
Linking your resort reservation is critical if you’re staying on Disney property — it determines when you can book Lightning Lane selections and dining reservations. The app recognizes your check-in date and automatically grants you early booking privileges.
If you’re traveling with family or friends, connect your accounts by tapping “Family & Friends” and sending them an invitation. Everyone in your party needs their own My Disney Experience account, but once linked, one person can make Lightning Lane and dining reservations for the entire group.
Making Dining Reservations#
Access Dining Reservations by tapping the “+” button at the bottom center of the app, then selecting “Check Dining Availability.” You can book table-service restaurants up to 60 days in advance — and if you’re staying at a Disney resort, you get the full 60-day window plus the length of your stay (up to 10 days).
Search by restaurant name, park location, cuisine type, or meal period. The app shows real-time availability with a calendar view. When you find an opening, book immediately — popular spots like Space 220 and Cinderella’s Royal Table disappear within minutes of the 60-day window opening at 6:00 AM Eastern.
Set up notifications for restaurants that show no availability. The app will alert you when cancellations open up, which happens frequently as guests adjust their plans.
Booking Lightning Lane#
The app offers two Lightning Lane products: Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. Purchase these directly in the app on the day you’re visiting a park (or up to seven days in advance if you’re staying at a Disney resort).
Tap “Tip Board” at the bottom of the home screen to see current wait times and available Lightning Lane return windows. Select your party members, choose your attraction and time slot, then confirm. The app displays your return time as a barcode that cast members scan at the Lightning Lane entrance.
Book your first Lightning Lane selection as early as your booking window allows — typically 7:00 AM for resort guests. After you tap into your first attraction or your return window passes, you can book your next selection. This rolling system means active users can secure multiple Lightning Lane reservations throughout the day.
Checking Wait Times and Planning Your Day#
The Tip Board shows live standby wait times for every attraction across all four theme parks. Refresh it frequently — wait times fluctuate significantly based on parade schedules, meal times, and weather.
The wait time display also indicates which attractions are temporarily closed and when they’re expected to reopen. Use this to avoid walking across the park to a closed ride.
Filter the Tip Board by attraction type (thrill rides, family attractions, shows) to quickly identify what fits your group’s preferences. The “Sort” function lets you view attractions by current wait time, helping you spot opportunities for walk-ons.
Using the Interactive Map#
Tap “Map” at the bottom of the screen to access GPS-enabled park maps. The blue dot shows your current location, making it easy to navigate to your next destination. Search for attractions, restaurants, or restrooms, and the app displays walking directions with estimated travel time.
The map shows character meet-and-greet locations with current wait times. These waits can exceed 45 minutes for popular characters, so check before committing to a long queue.
Enable location services for the full map experience — without GPS, you’ll only see a static map without your position or walking directions. The feature uses minimal battery despite running in the background.
Mobile Food Ordering#
Tap any quick-service restaurant on the map to see its menu and select “Order Food.” Choose your items, customize them, and pay through the app. You’ll receive a notification when your order is ready, then head to the mobile order pickup window to collect your meal.
Arrive at the restaurant before placing your order — the app requires you to confirm you’re nearby before the kitchen starts preparing your food. This prevents orders from sitting out and getting cold.
Mobile ordering saves 20-30 minutes compared to standing in traditional lines during peak lunch and dinner hours. Order during off-peak times (before 11:00 AM or after 2:00 PM for lunch) for the fastest pickup.
Troubleshooting Common Issues#
If your tickets won’t link, verify you’re entering the confirmation number exactly as it appears in your email — no spaces or dashes unless shown. Contact Disney’s technical support through the app’s help section if linking fails after multiple attempts.
The app requires a data connection to function. Download park maps while on your hotel Wi-Fi so you can access basic navigation if you lose signal in crowded areas. Wait times and Lightning Lane booking require active internet.
Keep your phone charged — the app drains battery quickly with constant GPS use and screen-on time. Bring a portable charger or use the charging stations located throughout the parks.
